La Campagne Tropicana is set to transform Taraba State into Africa’s new tourism capital through a major partnership between the Taraba government and La Campagne Tropicana’s founder, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye.
The initiative involves constructing five new world-class eco-tourist resorts across key locations such as Ibi, Nwonyo, and Ardo Kola, with work already underway on two sites.
This ambitious project aims to attract five million tourists within five years, significantly boosting the local economy and positioning Taraba as a premier destination for eco-tourism and cultural heritage.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has demonstrated strong commitment by allocating 790 hectares of land to the project and establishing Nigeria’s first Ministry of Heritage and Eco-Tourism to oversee sustainable development.
The resorts will offer immersive African cultural experiences, showcasing the architecture, traditions, and lifestyles of host communities, while also providing training in modern farming techniques to empower locals and ensure food sustainability.
The project is supported by international experts, including engineers from Trinidad and Tobago, and is designed to integrate Taraba’s rich natural and cultural assets, such as the Mambila Plateau and Gashaka Gumti National Park, into a cohesive tourism economy.
This will create jobs, promote regional crafts and services, and serve as a cultural homecoming for Africans in the Diaspora.
Otunba Akinboboye expressed enthusiasm about Taraba’s vast potential, highlighting its unique landscape of hills and lakes as unparalleled in Africa. The development includes plans for a city on the hills near Jalingo to enhance visitor experience.
This initiative marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s tourism sector, with Taraba poised to become a model for heritage and eco-tourism on the continent.
